Horkso’s Hustling Along!
I’ve been working my butt off on our space adventure novel Horkso Hustle for the past week after a considerable hiatus (at least, that’s what it feels like). I’d been giving myself permission to procrastinate by using a few trusted excuses: I’m on night shift at the moment, I’ve got uni assessment due, I’m busy rewatching all five seasons of Brooklyn 99…but no more, dammit! I’ve set myself some word count goals for each day and I’ve actually been meeting them. Sometimes it’s not until 10 o’clock at night, of course, but it’s still a huge win.
Both Kel and I have been working on some mental and emotional blocks that get in the way of our writing. A biggie for me is a fear that I’ve set my daily goals too high and that I’ll fail at reaching them (and hence never finish the book). It’s super fun when I’ve successfully reached my goal and then tell myself that I’ll fail tomorrow for sure. Ugh, brain, why are you so meeeeeaaaaaannnn??
Regardless of my self doubt, I’m loving Horkso and writing about the funny antics that the characters get up to. When I started writing this book, I never expected just how much I would adore Elise, Rapture and the rest of the gang. And Sachi. She’s hilarious…you’ll see what I mean soon.
Thanks for checking in, we’ll talk again soon.
